How to Read Token Holder Concentration on Solana Explorers
A practical method for comparing top-holder lists across Solscan and Solana FM without mistaking associated token accounts for separate wallets.
Token analysis ExplorersWhen you open a token page on Solscan, the holder tab presents a ranked list that looks definitive. In practice, several entries may belong to the same entity through associated token accounts, vault PDAs, or custodial wallets that share funding paths.
Start by noting the mint address and opening the same mint on a second explorer. Compare the top twenty addresses side by side. Discrepancies often appear when one indexer merges ATA relationships and another does not.
Next, click into the largest non-programme holder. Read recent incoming transfers. A cluster of deposits from the same source within a short slot range suggests a single operator split holdings for operational reasons rather than organic distribution.
Document your assumptions in writing before sharing conclusions. Concentration metrics are sensitive to how you treat programme-owned accounts and liquidity pool vaults—exclude addresses labelled as programmes unless your question specifically includes them.
Finally, capture screenshots with timestamps. Explorer UIs update, and holder rankings shift with every large transfer. Your notes should reference slot numbers where possible so another reader can verify the same state later.
